AWS has announced a major enhancement to its SageMaker platform at the annual re:Invent conference in Las Vegas. SageMaker, AWS’s fully managed platform for building, training, and deploying machine learning (ML) and generative AI models, is now integrating a curated set of third-party AI applications. This move aims to simplify workflows and enhance security for businesses leveraging ML solutions.

Expanding the SageMaker Ecosystem

Traditionally, third-party applications for tasks like experiment management, model evaluation, and security existed outside of SageMaker. Users had to independently manage these tools, often requiring custom integrations. AWS’s new initiative brings these third-party apps directly into SageMaker, allowing for a fully managed and secure experience.

Early partners in this initiative include:

  • Comet: For experiment management and tracking.
  • Deepchecks: To ensure model quality.
  • Fiddler: For explainability and monitoring.
  • Lakera Guard: To enhance AI security.

Streamlining AI Workflows

Ankur Mehrotra, AWS’s director and general manager for SageMaker, highlighted the challenges customers face when integrating third-party tools with SageMaker. “Customers want purpose-built third-party tools that work seamlessly with SageMaker. Today, this requires significant time and effort for integration,” Mehrotra explained.

The new integration eliminates this hurdle, enabling businesses to use their favorite tools within SageMaker without extensive setup. This improvement not only saves time but also ensures a smoother user experience.

Security has been a significant concern for companies using third-party AI tools. Businesses often hesitate to share sensitive data with external services.
