Elon Musk to Lead Government Efficiency Dept

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Elon Musk as head of a new initiative called the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE). The goal of this department is to streamline government functions by reducing bureaucracy, cutting waste, and simplifying federal agency structures. Musk will lead the initiative in partnership with former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, aiming to bring a private-sector, entrepreneurial approach to government management.

Trump's statement describes DOGE as an advisory body designed to work closely with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to implement broad reforms. This partnership is set to conclude by July 4, 2026. While Musk has publicly supported Trump's campaign and reportedly invested heavily in it, it’s unclear how this role will affect his responsibilities at Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter).
