The Guardian Leaves X
The Guardian recently announced that it will stop posting on X, formerly known as Twitter. The decision stems from concerns over increasing “far-right conspiracy theories and racism” on the platform. According to The Guardian, the shift under Elon Musk’s ownership, especially following the recent U.S. presidential election, has made X a more divisive and less valuable platform for its audience engagement.
Although The Guardian’s editorial accounts will go silent, journalists may still use X to gather information. This move aligns with earlier decisions by outlets like NPR and PBS, which also left X, citing similar concerns over content and platform management.
The Guardian clarified that its business model does not rely heavily on social media advertising, allowing it to focus efforts on what it considers less "toxic" digital spaces.
