Uber Freight Launches Broker Access
Uber Freight has introduced "Broker Access," a program granting freight brokers direct entry to its carrier network and digital platform. Building upon the 2021 "Market Access" initiative, Broker Access enables brokers to automate load execution without significant technology investments, leveraging Uber Freight's extensive carrier network to meet shippers' requirements.
This development follows Uber's recent earnings report, which highlighted a year-over-year increase in gross bookings for its freight division—the first since acquiring managed services provider Transplace in 2021. Broker Access is anticipated to further support this growth.
Load execution often involves complex processes with multiple platforms and workflows. Broker Access streamlines this by centralizing load management, tracking, and payment within a self-service portal or through API and TMS integrations. Brokers can manage pricing and bidding, or utilize Uber Freight's algorithms for dynamic pricing based on market conditions.
For smaller brokers, Broker Access offers an opportunity to compete on a larger scale by accessing Uber Freight's carrier marketplace. This access allows them to expand services and enter new lanes without the need to build a carrier network from scratch. Additionally, Uber Freight's payment guarantees provide financial security, mitigating risks associated with partnering with smaller brokers.
The program also includes fraud mitigation features, integrating advanced monitoring and vetting processes to connect brokers with trustworthy carriers while minimizing fraud risks. Automation within the platform enhances security by managing and validating carrier details.
Integration partnerships are key to Broker Access's functionality. The technology is currently offered through TMS integrations with Alvys, Tai Software, and a new partnership with capacity solution Parade. For legacy systems like McLeodTMS, Uber Freight is collaborating with industry consultant Metafora to facilitate access.
By simplifying processes and expanding access to its carrier network, Uber Freight aims to enhance efficiency and competitiveness for brokers of all sizes.
